Protect Little Hands: Gas Fireplace Safety Tips
Gas fireplaces are convenient and simple to operate, bringing cozy warmth with the touch of a button. Even without an open flame, safety is important with gas fireplaces, especially if children are in your home. Here are a couple friendly fireplace safety reminders and tips to keep you and your family safe and enjoying time around the fire.
Reminder #1: The Glass Gets Hot
Your gas fireplace is a wonderful centerpiece to your home, but it’s important to remember that on the other side of the glass is a real, burning fire and glass becomes very hot. Be sure to keep children and pets a safe distance away from a burning gas fireplace, and remember even after you turn it off, the glass will remain hot.
Reminder #2: Make Sure There’s a Safety Screen
Safety screens create a barrier that prevents skin from coming into direct contact with the hot glass, reducing the risk of serious burns. All Heatilator gas fireplaces and inserts come standard with protective safety screens. Don’t have a screen on your fireplace? You can request a free retrofit safety screen for your Heatilator here.
